How to choose a kettle?

Normally, how customers choose their product?
Did they alway make the right decisions?
                         Dazzing one or normal one?
                         Does normal just means undesigned?

Recently, I spent more than half hour to choose an kettle. Why? Why it is hard to decide?

I have to say it is a bad habit of mine who graduated from Industrial design. I tried every kettles: open it, swith on and swith off. After considering the aesthetics, using experience and prices, I left these two kettles to cpmpare.

These two product comparison is I download from internet:  The frist one is from John Lewis; the other one is from Kenwood offical site.

As I see, comparing these two kettles from every aspects.

  • Capacity: the yellow one is  more suitable for single dwellers. But it is quite heavy for a female, expesially when it full of water.
  • Prize: it is undenible that yellow one is too much expensive just for a kettle.
  • Handle: in this part, the white one using a rubber as the handle skin, the feeling is more than just good, and the yellow one is just not bad.
  • On/Off Switch: it is the most important reason that make me to choose white one. In design phrase, the switch of the white one is more intuitive, it means this switch looks like animals' tail which encourge user to touch it. Otherwise, comapred to the yellow one, it can  switch on more gently.
At first, I am really into the yellow kettle. But, depends on the prize factor, I decided to have more considering.  I have used the white kettle for about 2 monthes, and I am lucky to chose the right one.

I am not tend to be such a over thinking person. But back to my topic, how "Normal" product show their benefits to our comsumers. Normally, their benefits always covered by " Dazzing" one.
Should we need to rasing consumers awareness? It is luck to have an exhibition like "Super Normal" by Jasper Morrison and Naoto Fukasawa
